The brief called for a home that would sit comfortably within its streetscape – never demanding attention, yet quietly intriguing. The material palette was deliberately restrained, drawing references directly from the surrounding neighbourhood – the recycled red face brick characteristic of the area’s post-war homes, the crisp white render of its newer contemporary buildings and a considered use of timber that bridged exterior and interior, while softening and screening the front facade.

Grounded in family life and privacy, the living spaces are drawn to the rear, creating a more secluded and relaxed environment away from the street. A series of north-facing courtyards are carved through the elongated plan, bringing natural light deep into the home while encouraging passive cross ventilation. The result is a plan that feels open and breathable, maintaining a strong connection to the outdoors without compromising privacy.

This sense of calm restraint continues internally, where a warm, authentic home for a young family balances function with a subtle sense of play. A layered palette and considered use of colour bring the interiors to life, with soft blues and greens gently woven throughout as a nod to the clients’ favourite tones. The kitchen continues this language of natural materiality and refined simplicity. Open and highly connected, it prioritises flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, with everyday use at its core. A monolithic island anchors the plan, providing casual seating for four and forming the preferred gathering point over the formal dining area.

Intentional detailing allows the architecture and materials to speak without distraction. Full-height stacking doors open the kitchen and living zones to the alfresco, with tiled flooring flowing seamlessly from inside to out, reinforcing the connection to the garden, pool and backyard. Louvred windows introduce natural ventilation throughout, supported by discreet motorised blinds that allow the home to transition between openness and privacy, maintaining uninterrupted sightlines across the living spaces.
