RZB House

DESIGN ARCHITECTS // CARRIER AND POSTMUS ARCHITECTS
BUILD // WESTSTYLE

This project is a modest home complementing its surrounding locale, celebrating both the private and greater context. It is a representation of the architect’s ambition of designing a crafted, connected and enduring house. Sited on a narrow block, the house is grounded with a palette of dark toned stone and masonry elements. A crafted ‘flemish bond’ entry wall welcomes the visitor. Internally, thick-walled brickwork axis wall connects the main rooms on ground, voided by brick basket woven lintel archways to adjacent rooms.

Louvered bookends to the house and a thermal chimney allow the clients to adjust to season and time of day. The kitchen occupies the centre of the house and is surrounded by an open layering of dining, shaded terraces, pond, gardens and summer gazebo spaces. Sculpted ceilings mirror the morning and afternoon sunlight and become awash into night with a warm glow from concealed uplighters.
